Seattle Parks and Recreation offers active adult programs in 2014- Start the year off right!

Are you thinking about New Year’s resolutions and getting more active? Seattle Parks and Recreation is offering affordable and fun adult sports and activities in 2014. Enjoy bowling, men’s flag football, roller derby, women’s volleyball, coed dodgeball, men’s basketball and get out and go groups during the first quarter of 2014.  The programs offer an opportunity to meet new friends, bond with old friends and get moving in the New Year!

Roller Derby Adult Roller Derby is the fastest growing sport in the world, with over 60 leagues forming weekly, globally. Seattle Roller Derby is athletic, instructional, non-violent, great workout with an amazing community. Seattle Parks and Recreation has teamed up with Seattle Roller Derby to provide the first league of its kind.

When: January 5– March 25, 2014
Days: Tuesday and Sunday
Time: Tuesday 8 p.m.-10 p.m. and Sunday 7 p.m. -9 p.m.
Where: Southwest Community Center, 2801 SW Thistle, Seattle WA

Roller Derby Classes and Training                                               $10.00 drop in
Beginners can learn the fundamental skills of roller derby in a safe, fun and positive environment. Youth ages 14 and up, men and women will learn teamwork, discipline and confidence. No skating experience is required. Participants will be taught how to skate. Team placement will be available per skill assessment.
Program for Intermediate and Advanced Skaters            $40.00 per month

  • Intermediate Skaters: Skate on teams in public venues by passing basic skills assessment and complete a three month scrimmage requirement for team placement.
  • Advanced Skaters:  Will work on team strategy for competition and compete for spots on All Star Rosters.
  • Travel team: If skaters advance to the traveling team you will cross train and practice advance skills to compete in USA Roller Sports circuit competition.

Get Out and Go Group for Adults – Whether you’re new to Seattle or a lifelong resident you can socialize with new people, get some exercise and explore new activities every month.  Leave your agendas, laptops and work phone at home and get ready to Get Out and Go!  Van rides are available for groups of 8-10 people, with a cost of $6-8 within the city limits. Van will meet at a specified location for pick up and drop off. Registration forms are required for all participants. There is an 8 person minimum.

 Bowling League – For all the bowlers, this league is for you! League consists of men and women in teams of four of any combination. Games are played on Tuesdays for 10 weeks at Imperial Lanes, 2101 22 Ave. S, south of the I-90 exit, off of Rainier Ave. League includes shoes and alley rental. All participants receive a free bowling ball at the end of each season and winning team receives medals.

Time: 6:30-10:30 p.m.

Cost: $425 Team of 4 / $106.25 per person  

Men’s Flag Football                                         Barcode 112888

This top of the line 8 on 8 league is for men looking to play semi-contact flag football in a competitive environment.  Games days are on Sundays; with times varying from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. The cost is $725 with an eight game guarantee. The 1st place team will receive a trophy, t-shirt and bragging rights!

Women’s’ Volleyball                                      Barcode 112890

This 8 week recreation level league is for women players who are looking to enjoy volleyball in a competitive, yet friendly environment. Championship team receives t-shirts and bragging rights! Games are played with 6 women (16 and up), in our spacious indoor facilities. Games vary from 8 -10 p.m. at High Point Community Center, 6920 34th Ave SW Seattle.

Days: Wednesday
Time: Games vary from  8 – 10 p.m.
Where: High Point Community Center, 6920 34th Ave. SW
Cost: $319 per team/$65 per player

Adult Dodgeball                                               Barcode 112879

Lace up your tennis shoes, old school dodgeball is back. This 8 week recreation level league is for players who are looking to enjoy competitive dodge ball without an intimidating atmosphere. The league consists of two women minimum and four men maximum. The game is played with rubber dodge balls on an indoor court. Teams will play 2 – 20 min matches per night. Players will enjoy eight weeks of play in a fun and controlled environment at our spacious indoor facilities at

When: Jan. 13 – March 10
Days: Mondays
Time: Game times are at 6:30 p.m., 7 p.m., 7:30 p.m. and 8p.m.
Where: High Point Community Center, 6920 34th Ave. SW
Cost: $330 per team/$55 per player

It’s Tuesday Night Basketball! Men with a competitive spirit and love for the game can enjoy 8 weeks of play on Tuesday nights at South Shore Middle School (this is a full length gym). League winners receive top notch champion t-shirts

Time: Games vary from  6 –9 p.m.
Where: South Shore Middle School, 4800 S Henderson St, next to Rainier Beach Community Center
Introductory Cost: $420 per team/$60 per player
